2018 New Years Concert

January 20, 2018 by mijville

My good friend Yeako took me to a New Years Concert presented by Kyoto Women’s University on the shores of the beautiful Lake Biwa. The programme started with two sopranos, a tenor and a children’s choir. They sang  without any backing music and it was all very beautiful. I think they had something to do with  the Otani Tu Buddhist University, Next music with a brass orchestra composed by Hiroshi Ohguri. Interval was followed by songs from the Sound of […]

Goshuin Japan

February 20, 2017 by mijville

I really enjoy going to the Shrines & Temples here in Japan . What I didn’t know about was Goshuin. These are stamps –  shuin that you can get at most Shrines & Temples in Japan. Temple or shrine attendants will stamp your book and then hand write with ink & brush the name  of the shrine or temple and the date. You must have a special book- goshuin chou for the shuin. Don’t try and get a stamp in […]

Ruins of Oka Castle Taketa Kyushu Japan

February 10, 2017 by mijville

It is beleived that Oka Castle was originally built in 1185 by the general Ogata Koreyoshi. The ruins of the castle are very interesting with fabulous views. It gave me a better idea of how and where these castles were built. On the way to the castle we came across this weird little place that had hundreds of trees trimmed into animals. There were also deer that you could feed.
